"Ainu"_ the first imigrant

I was asked to paint a Spirit Bear for the City of Surrey in association with the B.C. Lions Society for disabled children. My bear is titled "Ainu". It gets its name from the ice age hunter on the front of the bear. The first people to settle in North America came during the last ice age. Genetic evidence derived from skeletons such as Kennewick Man indicate that the individual was a mixture of Ainu (Japanese aboriginal) and Melanesian, with some caucasian traits.
